Elena Terán, Program Director
Meet Elena Terán, Program Director extraordinaire. Elena joined the SVP team in March of 2011, and though she has been with us a mere seven months, she has achieved great feats for our educational programs.
Prior to moving down to the wee town of Ollantaytambo to work with the SVP, Elena was working as Project Coordinator with an educational non-profit in Estelí, Nicaragua. Elena’s education in International Development and Anthropology and her hands-on experience with project management in rural communities have proven to be an asset to our dormitory and program.
Since working with us, Elena has increased the efficiency of our educational programs by introducing after-school tutorials led by local teachers, improving our diagnostic tests for the students and winning several educational grants. She has also been rewriting our strategic plan, balancing budgets and mentoring students in her spare time (though it’s a wonder that she finds any time to spare!).
American born, but of Bolivian and Argentine descent, it has been a pleasure to have a fellow bilingual to work with. Elena is also a great cook, a phenomenal rock climber, and allegedly enjoys mountain biking (though I have yet to see her in action!).
